Music

Our Intent

We believe that music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way our pupils think, feel and act. From an early age, children will experience music in various forms; for example – nursery rhymes, background music, songs and games. We aim, in school, to nurture and build on these experiences in order to develop an understanding and enjoyment of music.

Music brings together intellect and feeling and enables personal expression, reflection and emotional development. Music is an integral part of culture, past and present, helping children to understand themselves, relate to others and forge important links between home, school and the wider world.

Along with regular singing sessions, we offer all children the chance to learn how to play an instrument; in Early Years children have the opportunity to play a range of instruments during adult led sessions and also in continuous provision both indoors and outdoors. The children learn to play Boom Whackers in KS1 and Ocarinas in Years 3,4 and 5. In Year 6, there is the opportunity to learn the Ukulele.

We also provide children with a variety of performance based musical opportunities throughout their time at the academy -including the participation in our yearly whole school Christmas Nativity and Pantomime performances.
