HMS Wizard

In HMS Wizard we have our youngest children at Strand Primary Academy, our Nursery Children.

We believe passionately that each child, with differing needs and interests, should be loved and supported as they grow. We know that children will thrive best in their learning if they feel emotionally secure, so we work very hard to promote warm friendships with staff and other children and to offer plenty of creative opportunities to learn through play.

Miss Nicholls

I have been working at Strand Primary Academy for over 15 years now and love working in Early Years. In my spare time I love anything to do with nature, going for long walks and looking for fossils on the beach with my children. I enjoy dancing and being creative.

Mrs. Probert

I am a very sporty person who takes part in lots of different activities outside of school. My favourite meal is a roast beef dinner and I also love it when my mum bakes cakes to bring into school (and so do the rest of the staff at Strand). I enjoy reading with the children in Nursery and encouraging the children to join in with their favourite stories.

During the Autumn term the children are learning about ‘Me and My Environment’ and ‘Celebrations’. The books we will focus on are Where’s my bear?, Meg and Mog, Mrs Honey’s Hat, Dear Zoo and Dear Santa.

Each day activities based on these books are planned and delivered to allow the children to become immersed in the vocabulary and structure.

We will be ending the term with our production where we will join FS2 – HMS Grimsby to sing and perform the Nativity.

In the Spring term we will be reading ‘The Enormous Turnip’. We will be looking at how vegetables grow, painting pictures of a real turnip, making and tasting turnip soup and seeing if we can pull a turnip out of the ground. We will then be reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We will be looking at the life cycle of a caterpillar, making our own patterns on butterfly wings and ordering the pictures from the story.

HMS Wizard.

In FS1 this term we are learning all about animals and the King. We are learning about farm animals, minibeasts and water animals. In the first half term we will be  learning all about the King and his Coronation too.

Our focus stories will be The Three Little Pigs, Super worm, The Rainbow Fish and Lost and found.  We will be using these books and topics to practise our number skills, improve our drawing and our painting abilities.

In the AM sessions, we will be learning our sounds through the RWI program and improving our listening and rhyming skills and in the PM sessions we will be using more and more vocabulary to name and describe things through role play and circle games.

The children will continue to sing and perform nursery rhymes and stories along with improving their communication skills.

In PE we will be improving our ball skills and practising the different activities we will need for Sports day as well as moving in different ways on the adventure playground.

We will continue to immerse the children in school experiences and begin the transition from FS1 to FS2.
